Physically control and securely store system media containing specified information.

Any physical or digital media (hard drives, USB sticks, tapes, optical discs) that contains sensitive information must be stored securely with restricted physical access. This means locked cabinets, safes, or secured rooms with controlled entry.

Implementation steps

  1. Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all system media containing specified information, including location and custodian
  2. Store all media in locked storage containers (safes, locked cabinets) within physically secured areas
  3. Limit access to media storage locations to authorized personnel only; enforce key or combination control
  4. Conduct quarterly media inventory audits to ensure all items are present and securely stored
