03.06.01Incident handlingITSP.10.171Incident response

Official Requirement

In Plain English

Your organization must have a working incident response capability -- not just a plan document, but actual people, processes, and tools ready to handle security incidents through the full lifecycle: preparation, detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery. This must be exercised and ready to activate at any time.

Incident handling capability

Implementation steps

  1. Designate an incident response team with defined roles, responsibilities, and contact information; establish an on-call schedule
  2. Deploy and configure SIEM and endpoint detection tools to feed alerts to the IR team
  3. Develop incident response playbooks covering the full lifecycle (preparation, detection, analysis, containment, eradication, recovery) for each common incident type
  4. Establish a secure communication channel and war room (physical or virtual) for incident coordination
