System component inventory management

Implementation steps

  1. Deploy automated discovery tools to identify all hardware and software components on the network
  2. Maintain the inventory in a CMDB or asset management system with attributes including owner, location, classification, and OS/firmware version
  3. Update the inventory as part of the change management process whenever components are installed, removed, or modified
  4. Conduct periodic physical inventory audits to reconcile the CMDB with actual deployed assets
