In Plain English

Logs are useless if nobody looks at them. Your organization must regularly review and analyze audit logs to spot suspicious or unusual activity, report findings to the right people, and correlate events across different systems to get the full picture. Increase monitoring intensity when threat levels change.

On-premises implementation and evidence

Audit record review, analysis, and correlation

Implementation steps

  1. Configure SIEM correlation rules to detect defined indicators of inappropriate or unusual activity across all log sources
  2. Assign security personnel to review SIEM alerts daily and conduct weekly analysis of aggregate trends and anomalies
  3. Produce monthly or quarterly security reports summarizing findings, trends, and recommendations for management review
  4. Correlate logs across systems (network, endpoint, application, authentication) to identify multi-stage attacks and gain holistic visibility
