In Plain English

Wireless networks must be formally authorized, documented, and secured. Each wireless access type needs defined security requirements including encryption (WPA3/WPA2-Enterprise) and authentication. Wireless radios must be disabled on devices and infrastructure when not needed. No open or weakly encrypted wireless networks.

On-premises implementation and evidence

Secure wireless access management

Implementation steps

  1. Configure enterprise wireless access points with WPA3 or WPA2-Enterprise and 802.1X authentication against Active Directory
  2. Disable SSID broadcast for sensitive networks, segment guest and corporate wireless, and apply firewall rules between segments
  3. Disable wireless network adapters via Group Policy on systems that do not require wireless connectivity
  4. Conduct periodic wireless scanning to detect unauthorized or rogue access points
