Non-admin users must be technically prevented from performing administrative actions such as changing system configurations, installing software, or modifying security settings. All privileged function execution must be logged so there is an audit trail of who did what and when.

Implementation steps

  1. Remove local administrator rights from standard user accounts and enforce via Group Policy
  2. Enable Windows Security Event logging (Event IDs 4672, 4673, 4674) to capture privileged function usage
  3. Forward privileged function logs to a centralized SIEM for monitoring and alerting
  4. Review privileged function execution logs weekly and investigate any anomalies
